OCTOBER 2024

01/10/2024

After 58 years loyal service to Cockerton Prize Silver Band, John Parkin has taken the very difficult decision to retire.

John’s level of commitment to the Band is unparalleled and even in retirement he will still be around as he said he will still be available to do draws, answer band room alarm calls and do what he can in the background.

John has been in the Band for over a third of it’s existence and has seen good and bad times, players and conductors come and go but he has remained a stalwart and is, and will continue to be a firm legendary fixture of CPSB.

Those of us with families will know how much their support helps us pursue this hobby we all love and it is only right to acknowledge his wife's Pat's part in supporting John and the Band in the background. Pat is always there at engagements and plays an active role in making sure everything that the rest of us take for granted run smoothly.

Band isn’t going to be the same without John there every Sunday and Wednesday and he will be very much missed.

We all wish John a long and happy retirement and look forward to seeing him around, his level of commitment shines as an example to the rest of us.

SEPTEMBER 2024

We had the privilege of playing in the inaugural Red Admiral Entertainment Contest at the weekend and what a great event it was! We even managed to walk away as winners of the most entertaining programme!!

A great concert on Friday 13th in Croft-on-Tees. Many thanks to the good people of St. Peters Church for being such generous and appreciative hosts.

AUGUST 2024

After many years dedicated service with the Band, Isaac Annesley has decided to call it a day. Isaac is a familiar face in North East banding circles and we're all going to miss him.

Another new signing !

Jonathan Wigham has joined the Band on 2nd Euphonium. Jonathan has done a lot of dep work with the Band over the last couple of years and it's great to have him on board full time!

JULY 2024

We are very pleased to announce two new signings to bolster our ranks!

On Solo Euphonium we welcome Louise Thompson, and on 2nd Horn, we have Helen Peacock. We're delighted they've both chosen to join us.

JUNE 2024

We were thrilled to have our President, Baroness Jenny Chapman as guest of honour, along with Carol Charlton and some of her team from St Teresa's Hospice, at our annual President's Concert.

We also had the terrific Dr Brett Baker as guest trombone soloist, who gave us a tour de force performance of thrilling dexterity and sound.
